Bouddi Collection (A series of works begun in 1989)

A selection of works is on display at Bells at Killcare 107 Scenic drive Killcare NSW

In a studio cum disused fisherman’s shack on the waterfront at Hardy’s Bay in 1989, a regional coastal community one and a half hours drive north of Sydney, artist Stephen Copland began a series of miniature and large scale paintings, watercolours and handmade books inspired by the Bouddi National Park.

Living at Killcare and fascinated by the sublime view from Marie Byles lookout to Sydney assisted Copland with the raw material to engage personal vision of the Australian coastal landscape. Immersed in broad vistas of nature space and the ability to observe climactic shifts and light effects (with their ability to render change on the natural environment), has enabled the artist to more fully realise a personal narrative in a search for identity through location.
